Skin Cancer
There are major types of skin cancer: actinic keracosis, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Here are some signs to look out for:
Actinic Keracosis - Scaly pink patches.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
- Usually occurring on the parts of your body exposed to the sun.
- Pearly or waxy bumps
- Scabbing or bleeding sores that try to heal, but return
- Flat, flesh-colored lesions or brown scars
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- Can occur in areas of the body exposed to the sun. This condition can occur in areas that aren't exposed to the sun for those with darker skin tones.
- Flat lesions with scaly, crusted surfaces
- Firm, red nodules
Melanoma - Melanoma most commonly appears on the lower legs or face but can develop on any part of the body. It tends to occur under fingernails, soles, toenails, or palms for those with darker skin tones.
- Small lesions with irregular borders that look red, white, pink, blue, or blue-black
- Dark lesions on your toes, palms, or soles
- Large, brownish spots with darker speckles
- Bleeding moles that change in size, color, or feel
